Those whom are self-represented should be allowed the same privileges or rulings may be made upon the written declaration and noticed by use of the United States Postal Service which is still efficient – I received a notice from Ms. Hartley’s office last week. I believe this would save congestion on the freeways, preserve the environment, and allow attorneys who drive from Newbury Park to Ventura to avoid traffic congestion on the 101 Freeway – or for those who travel from Los Angeles or Santa Barbara to avoid even worse traffic congestion. He also caught his own tears in a cup (a film starring Deborah Kerr called ‘Quo Vadis’ was made by now-bankrupt MGM in 1951. This film was awarded many Oscars). The book is called 'Quo Vadis'. This is the failing point of those, like Nero, who do not realize the crisis in California. We are the first wave to suffer in the USA. I have also seen this book in one of the court chambers. I realize all in authority, Judges, politicians therapist and more, are inundated now - and these people have always had my greatest respect to sit and have to decide issues with the wisdom of Solomon (deciding which mother was the real one when King Solomon threatened the life of a child with a sword). Further, I realize that one of authority cannot engage in social media, which is why I am posting in international time and using different references to currency. I trust this will trickle through. I am writing for the diasphora of South African who find themselves in every country on earth and who have remained loyal on FaceBook. Rome truly is burning. California is the centre of ideas and culture - spread through film, music, academics, art, ideas. This is why I came to California to study at film school in 1993 - where I graduated (surviving near-murder by a gang in 1993 who stole my bicycle on the Corners of Hollywood Boulevard and Western Avenue – where I lived in an apartment near Griffith Park at 1750 Western Avenue – I still have a friend on Facebook from that time –Scott Shepherd who drove a Porsche then – all I had was a bicycle which was stolen) and later worked as an intern at Disney Studios for James Orr (who, sadly, committed a criminal act on his then-girlfriend Farrah Fawcett Majors – who died on the same day as Michael Jackson). Awaiting bar results from the July 1996 examination, I worked as a substitute teacher, (after passing the CBEST in 1995. I think that date is correct - STRS had a retirement plan for me which did not vest – and which I declared in my own divorce case) at Newbury Park High, Westlake High, Thousand Oaks High and Redwood Middle School as well as most elementary schools in town - teaching every subject. I had earned no money as an intern at Disney Studios. At my first job in South Africa in 1977, I lied about my age, and earned three American cents per hour. Later I earned fifty-three dollars per month in boot-camp, which was incrementally increased over six-years, when I eventually became a Captain. I refused to attend a course to become a major – one of the reasons I have a target on the back of my head which began as a school-boy, mentored by Headmaster Eamon Armstrong, at Pretoria Boys High School (Head Prefect 1980), where I studied Latin under Mrs Erasmus for five years – and failed miserably as I was secretly working 21 hours each week – I made more in tips which enable me to buy Marantz stereo equipment in 1978 – my passion to this day. As a teacher in Thousand Oaks I earned 100 American dollars per day - which to me was a luxury. I had earned seven dollars per hour working in the English Department at Los Angeles City College as a film student in 1993. As a lawyer, I have the luxury of commanding more. Money is not a goal it self (Immanuel Kant’s language) - it is simply a commodity. However, we all need it to pay creditors and feed animals - that is my goal (I have beef cooking for the dogs; an orange for myself). I was accused of being ‘Mowgli’ as a child - a character in a book by Rudyard Kipling. I was also fortunate enough to study art for two semesters at Moorpark College- drawing nudes, and staring at naked men on Monday and naked women on Wednesday (‘M and W’) – these are the words of my Professor – not mine. This was not foreign to me – Richard, my mother’s brother is an artist and I grew up staring at nudes as early at age one and I am lucky to have this art and my own in my lovely condominium. My former spouse was awarded the house – I the dog Willson – that God for him – his death in 2016 of cancer hurt me more than this virus). I thank Erwin Chermerinsky for his inspiration – a man who taught me about the First Amendment – which was borrowed from the bill of rights created after the “Storming of the Bastille” The peasants were told to ‘Eat Cake, not bread,’ by Marie Antoinette. This hardship I experienced today when I was unable to find bread, and bought stale buns to feed seagulls outside of the closed Dave and Busters, Gold’s Gym and Nordstroms Rack. The medical offices next to Borderline (the shootings occurred near my home where I played the night my mother was almost murdered in South Africa in 2005 – her wedding ring virtually torn from her hand. Luckily she moved here thereafter), are also closed. This gym used to belong to Art Zittel (a good lawyer – hard - but kind to me). I regret if this is personal - which other lawyers have accused me of being. I cannot stand back and watch while our Rome burns. I have no other home, as do many of us. If my life was a day long, it would be 8 PM (that thought is borrowed from Tae Yun Kim and her book 'Seven Steps to Inner Power' which book was recommended by Psychology Today magazine – which I have read for ten years) - so the thought is not original. And now ‘Time is on my side. The credit there goes to Mick Jagger and Keith Richard – who I always joked were my fathers. None of my fathers ever wanted to live with me – so I was raised and fed music my men – while my mother Astrid spent her entire salary on my education – bless her. My fathers later made up to me as an adult and I mourned their passing within one-month of each other in 2004. Currently our clients are receiving either discounted rates or threatening requests from insurers - Insureon is one I can mention – yes you Mr. Tambourine and your disgusting office. This representative of Insureon is attempting to extort money from me for a Workers Compensation insurance policy which expired in September 2019, which I then cancelled in writing. I have had no full-time employees since 2011 except for Tyece Shaw. My mother, Astrid du Plessis assisted me from 2011 through 2018, and then died in 2018, as memorialized on my website. Tyece assisted me during the remainder of 2018 – hence the insurance policy – while Leon Shen (Chinese), assisted me late in 2018 and part of 2019, working 20-hours per week. Leon then attempted to go to law school in Fall 2019 at Irvine. He is terribly bright - and his academic life stands in question due to closures - as does that of my daughter, Anouk, who attends San Diego State University majoring in psychology. She is 19-years old and the ambulance driver- another Astrid – who studies psychology at Moorpark. This is not about me. The concern is greater. This is why I attach a photo of an empty store - with my face blocked - and nature visible in the background. I thank God for my life and its experiences. I am now told that I am frightening Americans and extreme. But I am an American. I became a citizen of this wonderful country in 2001 – just before the Trade Center was demolished (where my father worked for Skidmore Owings and Merrill in the sixties which redesigned the site (http://www.som.com). Bless him and all his designs including those he showed me in the second last week of his life, using the little that he had left after a blood transfusion. Acute Mylar Lymphona killed him in three weeks. I was also accused of being ‘too excited when I arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport for the first time on January 1. 1992. (The first time I landed in Boston in 1990 and then was flown to New Jersey, when Vantage Press, published a book of my poems called Restlessness and Devotion). Thanks to Neville Robinson, who is still by friend on FaceBook, also suffered cancer, and who was a travel agent and the time. He forbid me from hitchhiking from New York to Washington DC. This is not South Africa –where life was this way (read the way of ‘COVID- 19 March, 2020 in California) all my life. Necklacing’ occurred where tires were placed around some necks and set on fire. Colleagues were burnt to ash). I walked from my office the day the Church Street bombing shook the earth a mile away (much like I imagine the Oklahoma bombing to have sounded). This is WW III and it started in 2019 – (some conspiracy advocates claim at Fort Detick’s – I have not researched this claim). There is too much finger-pointing. I do have too much time now. Finally. ‘The Pen is mightier than the sword (Shakespeare – Thank you Pete Southey – Form Three 1978)’ I am a true INFJ. Buddha, Marx, Jesus and Socrates were all called ‘mad’ but changed the world. Socrates drank hemlock. Mozart died in a paupers grave and Van Gogh removed an ear. I have no guns. Writing is my tool. Thanks to hope awarded to my sunken sole from my girlfriend whose name means ‘Bee in Hebrew (I have always loved bees). I have only been able to see her twice this month as she lives in Orange County – who was born poor in Texas (like me) and who Master’s Degree in Microbiology has helped me fight this virus. Thank you to Pink Floyd whose music I am listening to as a write this and with whom I partnered in 1976 – thanks to the du Preez brothers who were up to thirteen years older then – and still my friends (those have are still living – to this day. I lost Etienne last year). I have to also thank, Jim Morrison and Leonard Cohen – my favorite modern American poets. Finally thanks to Johannes Gutenberg for developing a printing press in 1440 – the actual birth-date of the computer in my miserable opinion.
